The Long and Short of it.

Leather shorts have been peering themselves through A/W trends. Having seen a pair in Acne's SS11 show, I knew I had to have them. This pair is from Topshop but if you're not on a budget you must check out the Open Ceremony and Phillip Lim versions. Softening out the look is really important, this can be done by pairing the shorts with some flat pumps, an elegant vintage shirt and some winter sunnies.

A Word of Caution : Do not pair this item up with a leather jacket, unless you're trying to look like a Hells Angel.

Tis the reason to wear sequins

Holidays are a great time to glam up a notch.

South Africa doesn't offer the wondrous option of winter layering over this time but we sure can add some sparkle (sans fake tan) to the holidays.

Handbag from Lulu Belle available at Cape Town Waterfront and Pretoria's Brooklyn Mall
(I always manage to find affordable french imports from there)

No more bland, blend

Along with the rest of the fashion world, I am fantasising over the mixtures of textures and translucency.

This photo was taken on a night out and I wasn't feeling the little black dress option so opted to layer it with something a little more summer to break it up.

Veiled panels of print make for interesting illusions. I want more.

Alberta Feretti's 2010 A/W range sees the play of chiffons but she takes it another level of cool and brings jewellery into the garment, a beaded sleeve like the ones we know and love in figure skating costumes. AH ha.... sexy .

Crop tool /_ /

The crop top has hit SA, it has hit us as hard as it did in the 80's (minus the hallucinogen hair spray high)

Skip the 90's crop top with low lying jeans, the crop top remains partnered and is best flattered by a high waisted summin summin... no navel allowed (although I have seen it successfully pulled off, don't try it at home)

High waisted jeans: Top Shop
Sailor stripe crop top : Top Shop found in (secret) Local department store

Wedges : Herry (Turkish Imports)

Extra! Extra!

Every outfit can only be complete with the perfect accessory. I'm a plain Jane when it comes to accessories, but I recently realized the error in my ways ( thank you Norwegian Wood!). Anyways so here is my little piece on my favorite accessories:

The Vintage Clutch

Can't remember where I got this, but I recall there was hair pulling involved. Must have been some vintage sale in East London. In any case this was meant to be instore, but made it to my wardrobe instead ( sorry Ed). I love its soft navy leather. Its never been worn or taken for a spin, yet still so very beautiful.

The Lenon-inspired sunglasses

Hmmmmm the story of how I got these is dubious , so I'll leave that story for another day. Aren't these glasses awesome!!! My no1 80's accessory...well Donna Summer singing "Romeo-oh-oh-oh"... follows a close second. I love these so much, I might just wear them indoors.

( my mothers 80's table cloth fits in very nicely)

Joseph

So I met up with a friend of mine yesterday which was fabulous. We spoke about the Biafra war in Nigeria, about the African elite pandemic, about colonialism and the effect of Christian missionaries on the social fabric of the African continent. A moment straight out of a Chimamande Adiche Ngozi novel. So I was particularly taken by Josephs outfit, the combination a stripe shirt with houndstooth jacket felt very African Dandy. His greatest style icon...his grandfather.
